my mom’s cooking a christmas turkey, the meat thermometer broke and she wants to make sure the liquid that came out is not going to poison us, it’s apparently not mercury like normal thermometers

I’ve heard instant-read thermometers are popular, but it seems like a candy thermometer like this one— http://www.kitchenkaboodle.com/product_detail2.php?sku=DTTC-W!316 —might be more useful. If I could only buy one which should I get?

I think I have now tried 4 different thermometers digital and non-digital and all have failed me! I want to buy another one, but I want to know it is going to work for me! What kind is your favorite and who makes it? Looking for therm I can use for meats in the oven

Has mercury been banned in thermometers, including cooking thermometers? If so, when? How do you know if your thermometer has mercury? My thermometer has red in the center of a glass tube? Is it mercury? How do you safely dispose of these thermometers? Thank you!
