how do i heat a frying pan to 355f without a cooking thermometer?
ok, im cooking a recipe i got from the internet- http://www.jamaicans.com/cooking/chicken/southfryjerk.shtml .i got everything for this apart from the thermometer which i forgot…. so how will i no when it reaches 355f, ive got an electric cooker which goes to a ring 6. so if anyone no’s, please, how long do i leave the heat on for, is there an easy way to guess the heat? thanks in advanced.

A couple of ways -
Take a wood spoon and stick the end in the hot oil, if there are vigorous bubbles, it’s ready.
Drop a small piece of bread with the same effect.
It will cool as food is added but don’t keep it on high or it will burn.
