best cooking thermometer out there?

I think I have now tried 4 different thermometers digital and non-digital and all have failed me! I want to buy another one, but I want to know it is going to work for me! What kind is your favorite and who makes it?

  1. I like the instant read thermometers. Look for one that has what looks like a little nut under the dial. This can be used to calibrate the thermometer. Fill a glass with ice, add water and put the thermometer in the ice water. The temperature should be 32 degrees. Adjust the dial from that. Or boil water and check the temperature it should be 212 degrees. If you can not adjust the thermometer then add or subtract the number of degrees that the thermometer is off by.
If you are talking about an oven thermometer look at all the ones on the rack and eliminate any that are off either high or low. Digital oven thermometers can be checked like the instant read ones. Either check using ice water or boiling water. Electronic digital ones I don’t think can be calibrated.
Stick with a good name brand. Taylor is very good and has been in the business for years.
