When the bulb of a constant-volume gas thermometer is placed in a beaker of boiling water at 100°C, the pressure of the gas is 223 mmHg. When the bulb is moved to an ice-salt mixture the pressure of the gas drops to 159 mmHg. Assuming ideal behavior, as in the figure below, what is the [...]

Specifically, do I keep the meat thermometer in the meat the whole time it cooks? Last time I tried that, the thermometer melted at 350 degrees. Or, is the thermometer only used to "test" the meat's temperature towards the end of cooking it?

I purchased a digital basal thermometer for the purpose of tracking my ovulation date. When do I begin using the thermometer if my period began on 1/18? Thanks.
Should I start when I wake up tomorrow morning? The instructions said it’s best to chart before getting out of bed.

I don’t have a meat thermometer (they recommend inner temp at 150 degrees). How long should I let it cook for at 325 degrees to bring it to about that temperature (I want it tender and don’t want to overcook it!)?

I have two questions about cooking:
1. How much, exactly, is one cup of butter?
2. Without using a candy thermometer, how would you know if what you're cooking has reached the "soft ball stage?"
